16th Street Heights at a Glance

The Saturday, February 2, 2008, Washington Post featured the 16 Street Heights neighborhood in the article Hazy on Borders, Residents Are Sure of 16th Street Heights. The Post summarized the neighborhood in the following manner.

BOUNDARIES:16th Street NW to the west, Georgia Avenue to the east, Missouri Avenue to the north and Arkansas Avenue to the south

HOME SALES: In the past 12 months, 62 homes have sold in the neighborhood, at prices from $320,000 to $1.4 million, according to David Cox, an agent with Long & Foster. There are 22 houses actively on the market, with asking prices from $351,900 to $1.1 million, and four houses under contract, with list prices of $574,500 to $675,000.

SCHOOLS: Powell Elementary, West Elementary, MacFarland Middle and Roosevelt Senior High schools

WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE: Carter Barron, Rock Creek Park, two-block commercial district, public swimming pool, playground and more than a dozen houses of worship

WITHIN 10-15 MINUTES BY CAR: Columbia Heights, Mount Pleasant, Petworth, downtown Washington, Silver Spring

  1. According to the office of Councelmember Muriel Bowser, 16th Street Heights is bordered to the east by Georgia Avenue, the west by 16th Street, the north by Missouri Avenue and the south by Spring Road and New Hampshire Avenue.
