April 4, 1927: Reacting in part to the fact that only 4,500 of the 20,000 children in public schools who needed dental care in 1926 got it, Dr. Joseph A. Murphy, chief medical examiner of the public schools, declared  the beginning of a health campaign in public schools by the District Dental society that lasted for three weeks.dental-examination
