Gay Marriage Recognition in D.C. in Council

gay-marriageThe D.C. city council is expected to hold a final vote on legislation recognizing same-sex marriages performed elsewhere tomorrow morning at their session, which begins at 10:00 a.m. The vote will place the issue before Congress, which has final say over the city’s laws.

As a result, it could get a little messy at the District building as Clergy descend on the City to voice their opposition and/or support of the issue. Equally motivated are the city’s gay community, who will be attempting to pack the chamber and wearing white so they are recognized. The Examiner has more of the story.

As I’ve voiced before, whether you come down on the side of common decency or bigotry, I don’t think it matters in the long run. Ultimately, the same ruling that integrated our schools will permit gay marriage. As a Nation, we’ve already determined that separate is NOT equal.
