D.C.’s Homicide Tally Drops in 2009

According to WJLA’s story D.C.’s Homicide Tally Drops in 2009|ABC 7 News, the number of homicides in the District of Columbia have dropped in the first five months of 2009 when compared with last year. The city has recorded 52 homicides by May 31, 2009. That’s a 28.7 percent decrease from 2008.

I thing this is great news. With the number of high profile violent crimes that have occurred in the last few months, its easy to loose focus and think crime is spiraling out of control. That the numbers are down signals that the situation may not be as bleak as its appeared lately.

If you’re interested in what the crime statistics are for up to 1500 feet from where you live or in your PSA/District, you can find that out by using this application provided by MPD.
