July 15, 1928: The Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. made an announcement that trans-Atlantic telephone service between the United States and Switzerland, the ninth European country to be connected by telephone with American cities, had been established and would be available for telephone users of the District of Columbia and other parts of the country Wednesday, July 18th.
