To put this image in a little more context, when this postcard of a new auto chemical engine for the Washington Fire Department was created in 1907, the vast majority of the fire department was still powered by horses, some stations not switching over to automotive power until 1912.New Auto Chemical Engine 1907


DC Fireboat During Test

Following up on my earlier post of the fire station for Engine 16, is this video clip that I found on its Web site. I think its interesting to watch a fireboat in actions.

The description of the video is as follows: Engine 16, Tower 3, Fireboat, and Battalion 6 staged a water capacity drill – with the John Glenn supplying the wagon and tower pipes with water directly from the river. The drill was to demonstrate DCFD’s ability to supply water during a potential interruption of a continuous supply.
